Family, Fun and the Flag

Memorial Day weekend has always been incredibly special to me. It’s the start of the summer, and an extraordinary time to honor those servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our flag. I’m blessed to come from a strong military background. My grandfather fought at the Battle of the Bulge during WW11, a slew of uncles served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Desert Storm. Following my uncles, I have had a cousin serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In the present day, I have a close family member serving our country in what some call the European Theater.

This year, we honored those who served with a small BBQ at our home and festive décor. The highlight of the food table was my Star-Spangled (J) Strawberry Pie. Lucky for me, the guest of honor loved every bite! Is your mouth watering? Yea, it was just as good as you imagine. I’ll be sharing the recipe later this month, so you’ll be able to make your own Star-Spangled Strawberry Pie for the July 4th Holiday.
