Canning in my blood. Seriously, it is. My family has spent centuries in the mountains of WV, and each summer they can food to store and use all winter. I can remember as a little girl watching my grandma and great-grandma cook and process their canned goods. As an adult, I’ve carried on the tradition and can every summer vegetables from my garden. It’s a soothing experience that keeps me close to my roots and nutritious food on my table.
There are so many important elements to canning, but one of the most creative is deciding on how to label your goods. This year, I selected Avery kraft labels and decided to include icons for the vegetables. Labeling your canned goods means you never play the guessing game of what’s in the jar at dinner time. Trust me, I’ve played this game and lost. No one enjoys salsa on their spaghetti noodles.
To save you from salsa on your spaghetti noodles, I’m sharing my Sweet Pickle label from this canning season. I loved the square shape of the Avery 22848 label and how it allowed the font to be large enough to easily be read from the cabinet shelf.
