How to Make an Adorable Skye Pumpkin for Halloween

Yes, I did decorate a pumpkin just like Skye from Paw Patrol. If you’ve noticed my recent posts, you’ll realize this year’s Halloween theme is PAW PATROL. I’m not nearly as excited as the preschooler who lives in my house, but she’s pretty sure this Halloween will be the best.

Skye Pumpkin

This pumpkin was a lot easier to create than I initially thought. If you make one of these, I promise it will impress the Paw Patrol fan in your life. With a few supplies and simple steps, you can bring Skye to life on your pumpkin using felt, paint, and vinyl. Oh, and you can buy my template pattern for Skye on Etsy. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial.

Supplies Needed:

  • 1 piece Glitter White Felt ($0.25)
  • 1 piece Medium Pink Felt ($0.25)
  • 1 piece Light Pink Felt ($0.25)
  • Two pieces of Medium Brown Felt ($0.25)
  • 1 piece White Peel and Stick Felt ($0.99)
  • 1 piece Black Peel and Stick Felt ($0.99)
  • 1 piece Light Pink Peel and Stick Felt ($0.99)
  • 1 piece Printable Vinyl
  • Medium Pink Acrylic Paint
  • Painters Tape
  • Gorilla Glue
  • Needle and Thread (optional if sewing goggles)

Step 1: Prep and Paint the Pumpkin

Start by cleaning the surface of your pumpkin to ensure it’s free from dirt and dust. Once dry and clean, use painters tape to mark off the bottom portion of the pumpkin. This helps create a neat division for the pink-painted section. Paint the bottom portion of the pumpkin with the medium pink acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step. My pumpkin took three coats of pink to cover the bottom completely.

Step 2: Cut the Felt Pieces

  • Goggles: Cut two circles from the glittering white felt for the lenses. Then cut two slightly larger circles from the light pink felt to serve as the goggle frames. Then cut two more larger circles from the medium pink.
  • Goggle Straps: Depending on the size of your pumpkin, cut strips of medium pink felt for the straps that extend from the goggles to the back of the pumpkin.
  • Eyes and Nose: Use the peel-and-stick white, light pink, and black felt to create Skye’s eyes, nose, and other facial features. The white felt forms the eye base, the light pink creates the inner details of the eyes, and the black is used for the pupils and nose. You’ll cut two ovals from the medium brown felt to create the fur her eyes will set on.
  • Ears: Cut Skye’s floppy ears from the medium brown felt. Make sure to curve the pieces to match her ear shape.

Step 3: Assemble the Face

Peel and stick the felt pieces in place to create Skye’s face. Start with the white base for the eyes, then layer the light pink and black pieces to complete the eye details. Using black peel-and-stick felt, add the nose and mouth.

Step 4: Attach the Ears and Goggles

  • Ears: Using gorilla glue, glue the medium brown felt ears on each side of the pumpkin. Hold them in place for a few minutes to ensure they adhere well.
  • Goggles: For the goggles, you can sew them together or simply glue the pieces for a quicker option. I opted to sew the pieces together. Attach the goggle frames and lenses (made from glitter white and medium pink felt) to the top of the pumpkin. Then, glue the pink straps to each side, wrapping them slightly to the back.

Step 5: Add the Paw Patrol Badge

Print Skye’s badge using the printable vinyl. Once printed and cut out, attach it to the front of the pumpkin, right under her face, for that finishing Paw Patrol touch!

Step 6: Final Touches

Let all the glued pieces fully dry and ensure everything is securely in place. Your Skye-themed pumpkin is now ready to display!

Tips:

  • Depending on the size of your pumpkin, you may need to adjust the length of the goggle straps.
  • Sewing the goggles gives a sturdy finish, but glue works just as well if you’re short on time or have access to a sewing machine.
  • Use a faux pumpkin if you want this decoration to last for years.
