Top Dog RVA: Vote for Clark!
Clark joined our family almost nine years ago this summer. Jerad and I were looking for a puppy, but couldn’t agree on what breed we wanted and then Clark showed up unexpectedly. Clark was brought into the clinic after being found along the side of the road with a broken leg. He happened to be taken to the same clinic that treated my parent’s dogs, and my family happened to be in the lobby one day when the staff showed them Clark.
My dad texted me this photo of Clark, and I immediately knew I wanted to adopt him. I quickly convinced Jerad he was perfect for us, which wasn’t hard because Jerad had his heart set on a golden retriever. I was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta at a young age, and I’ve had no less than 25 broken bones in my life. Clark’s cast made me love him instantly and I lobbied the clinic to let me adopt Clark. But, the clinic didn’t think Jerad and I were an ideal fit for Clark. The clinic assumed that I wouldn’t know how to care for Clark’s injuries and they had already promised Clark to another family.
I quickly explained to the clinic that I was perhaps the best person to care for Clark and his broken leg. The one thing I knew a lot about was navigating the world with a cast. I spent the next few weeks calling to check on him and pleading our case with the clinic. Ultimately, they let us adopt him and we named him Clark. After Superman’s alter ego, Clark Kent. He was truly a superhero among dogs! We chose a green cast for him, since his cast was his kryptonite.
Clark’s leg healed to his version of normal. It’s slightly shorter than his other limbs and he sometimes chooses not to use it, but it doesn’t stop him from having the time of his life! He loves to play with his toys, run and of course take naps.
He doesn’t even mind appeasing me by dressing up in costumes! You should see what we have planned for this year. If you have the time, will you vote for Clark as top dog RVA? We’d love to celebrate his 9th birthday with a spread in Richmond Magazine! You can vote for Clark, HERE.
